Thomas McDonald researches literature in the context of modern economic crisis and political risk. He is currently working on a comparative study of Austrian and Japanese literature in the 1980s. At Stanford he has taught Japanese language through film. Other interests include Latin American literature; South Slavic literature (Serbo-Croatian and Slovenian); Turkish literature; film; aesthetics; philosophy.
