Heidi M. Feldman MD PhD holds the Ballinger-Swindells Endowed Professorship in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine and serves as the Medical Director of the Mary L Johnson Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics Clinical Programs at Lucile Packard Childrenâ??s Hospital. She earned a PhD at the University of Pennsylvania in Developmental Psychology and an MD at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine. She completed pediatric residency training at the University of California Medical Center and then did fellowship training at the Childrenâ??s Hospital Boston. She was on the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh and worked at the Childrenâ??s Hospital of Pittsburgh for 22 years before moving to Stanford University in 2006. Dr. Feldman has had long-standing research interests in child language, particularly in children with medical and neurological conditions that put language learning at risk. She is currently combining neural imaging techniques and behavioral measures to understand the outcomes of children and adolescents born preterm. Dr. Feldman places high value she places on service. Between 1995 and 2006, she served as the Project Director of a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities grant to the University of Pittsburgh, a federally funded project that trained advanced professionals from 11 different disciplines to serve children with disabilities through leadership and advocacy. Since 2006, she has worked closely with First 5 San Mateo County to improve the identification of children with special health care needs at young ages and to coordinate care for these children and their families. Dr. Feldman has held leadership positions in the American Academy of Pediatrics, Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, and American Board of Pediatrics. She is one of the editors of the premier text book in the field of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics. She is on the Board of Abilities United, a community-based organization that serves individuals with disabilities across the age span. She has taught Developmental Disabilities: From Biology to Policy in Human Biology at Stanford University. Dr. Feldman is also a dedicated yoga enthusiast and yoga teacher.
