As Vice President for Public Affairs of Stanford University, David oversees the university?s public relations and communications, government relations, and community affairs. Mr. Demarest has enjoyed a distinguished career in communications in both the private and public sectors as: Executive Vice President for Global Corporate Relations and Brand Management - Visa International, Executive Vice President and Director of Corporate Communications - BankAmerica Corporation, White House Communications Director - George H.W. Bush, Communications Director - Vice President Bush 1988 Presidential Campaign, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Public, Intergovernmental, and Private Sector Affairs, and Assistant Secretary of Labor for Public and Intergovernmental Affairs. He is past chairman of the Public Relations Seminar, and a member of the Arthur Page Society. He also serves on the George Bush Presidential Library Advisory Council. In addition to his role as Vice President for Public Affairs at Stanford, he teaches a course titled ?Political Communications ? How Leaders Become Leaders? at Stanford?s Graduate School of Business, and an undergraduate course, titled, ?Making Sense of Strategy.?
