CLASSICS 200G: Imperial Greek Prose

This course is a survey of the historical, biographical, and geographical literature created by and for socially mobile elites from Rome to Athens to Emesa and Prusa under the Roman Empire. The goals are to familiarize you with a selection of these texts, the contexts in which they were produced, and the strategies of engagement with earlier Greek literature that their writers employed.
