ALP 307: Public Policy Lab

In this 10-week team-based Action Learning Program course, we collaborate with a state or local government office, agency, or official to address a public policy challenge in a novel way. Participants will work in groups to write chapters of a report directed to our partners, and will have the opportunity to present their results directly to high-level government officials. Given the focus on evidence-based policy, students will be required to synthesize and assess the implications of results from research studies, and most projects will have a data analytic component. Class guests will include policy experts, researchers, representatives from state and local governments, those with pertinent lived experience with the challenge area, and other stakeholders. Past years' labs have focused on attracting high-tech investment to Alabama and providing data-driven solutions to the homelessness crisis in California. Note: The course topic and strategic partner will be announced one quarter in advance.
