STS 191W: Doing STS: Introduction to Research
This seminar introduces key analytical approaches and methodologies in the interdisciplinary field of Science, Technology, and Society (STS), along with essential tools for designing and conducting original research in STS and related social sciences. Students will explore a range of influential studies that examine the intersection of science, technology, and society, identify compelling research questions of their own, and learn how to pursue these questions through strong research design. Throughout the quarter, students will complete smaller writing assignments, culminating in a fully developed research proposal. This final proposal can also serve as an honors prospectus for students interested in the STS Honors program. Attendance during the first week is mandatory. Priority registration will be given to students considering the STS Honors program.
