POLISCI 443T: Approaches to Chinese Politics

This graduate seminar is designed to give doctoral students bibliographic control of the major secondary literature on Chinese Politics. This course is organized around theoretical concepts and issues found in studies of China's political system and comparative politics. The focus is on the evolution of the field: What questions have been asked? What type of research has been done? What sources have been used? What analytical tools have been used? What have been the theoretical and analytical results of the research? How does the research connect to the broader political science literature? How has our understanding of Chinese politics evolved with these changes? This course presumes a basic knowledge of the government and politics of post 1949 China.
