JEWISHST 179: Crafting True Stories: From Real-Life to Play and Script (TAPS 179, TAPS 379R)

Real events - historical and biographical - are the inspiration for remarkable plays and films. But how do we adapt real-life experiences into a compelling screenplay? This creative writing workshop will focus on the transformation of facts into narratives. Students will acquire essential tools for writing powerful stories for stage and screen (e.g., character development, subtext dialog, comic techniques and more), which will be practiced through writing exercises. While developing their own projects, students will be introduced to non-fiction masterpieces that provide leading examples of how authentic events can be crafted into engaging dramatized stories. By the end of the course, each participant will have a developed project proposal, containing an extended synopsis, character profiles, and sample scenes. Join us on this creative journey that bridges reality and imagination, turning true stories into captivating performances.
