ITALIAN 393: Dante's World

We live 700 years after Dante (1265-1321), in a completely different world. Should we still read him? In what way a Medieval poet could be relevant to us today? This graduate seminar explores these and other questions by looking at how Dante crafted his own worlds through his poetry and prose, from the major poem the Comedy to his minor works. The course is divided into four main sections (Love, Politics, Language, Cosmos).
