ITALIAN 137: Contemporary Issues in Italian Culture: Mafia, Immigration, Politics
This course examines some pivotal aspects of contemporary Italian society from a multidisciplinary perspective. By critically analyzing a relevant a selection of literary texts, visual arts, films, and popular music from the postwar era to the present, students will learn how the complex dynamics of organized crime and immigration reflect foundational ideas on family, gender, institutions, and politics that have historically shaped Italian lifestyle and society. All the class lectures and readings will be in English.
