HISTORY 114B: The Crusades: A Global History

Questioning the traditional western narratives of the crusades, this course studies Latin and Turkic invaders as rival barbarian formations, and explores the maritime and terrestrial environment of western Eurasia in the centuries before western European global expansion. We investigate the diversity of and within Muslim, Christian, Jewish perspectives, and inquire into the nature of medieval societies. However foreign, the interactions and encounters between these societies continue to reverberate today.
