ECON 226: Topics in US and international economic history

Frontiers in US economic history and its role as a distinctive approach to the study of economics. This course equips students to produce original research, analyzing major questions across different fields through an economic history lens. Students will critically assess papers and will engage with empirical methods such as difference-in-differences, synthetic controls, regression discontinuity, and machine learning applications. Topics include: long-term economic growth and institutional development; technological change and industrialization; labor markets and human capital formation; financial systems and economic crises; inequality and social mobility; regional and urban development. Enrollment limited to graduate students.
