ARCHLGY 203: SLAVERY, MEMORY, & ARCHAEOLOGY

This seminar will explore several themes related to memory and slavery through archaeological, historical, and heritage lenses. What are the roles of archaeological and historical research in remembering slavery and the enslaved in post-slavery societies? What is the materiality of memorialization and commemoration? Additionally, how can archaeology approach the ways in which memory was evoked within the institution of slavery itself?
