In this seminar we will read and discuss a number of key medieval texts: Hartmann von Aue's "Gregorius," Wolfram von Eschenbach's "Parzival," Alber's "Tnugdalus," sermons by Meister Eckhart and a selection of twelfth-century religious poetry. Discussions will focus on sin, atonement and subjectivity. Some course materials are only available in German. This course will be taught by Visiting Professor Sarah Bowden (King's College London).
