TAPS 138V: Video Design for Performance

Students will explore how to film live performances, including theater, dance, music and performance art, in ways that convey the energy and magic of the live performances. The course will be part critical analysis of past professional productions from a variety of disciplines, and part practical instruction as students make videos. Students individually will conceive two performances and design plans for filming both, then will work in pairs with classmates to film and edit the performances using camera phones and basic editing software. Instruction will focus primarily on the conception and design stages. Students are encouraged, but not required, to have a project/projects in mind that they would like to develop during the quarter.
