Richard Martin

Richard Martin I'm interested in the culture of ancient Greece, especially the verbal arts of the period 700-300 BC. Homeric poetry is my main focus. To appreciate the poetry more deeply I make use of work in folklore, social anthropology and linguistics. My teaching includes (from time to time) courses (in translation) on Orpheus and Orphism; medieval Irish literature; and ancient comedy, as well as courses in Greek and Latin.
