Julien Sage received his Bachelors degree in Biology from the Ecole Normale Suprieure of Paris in 1992 and his PhD from the University of Nice in 1998. He trained as a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Tyler Jacks at MIT before joining the faculty at Stanford in 2004 in the departments of Pediatrics and Genetics.
