Daniel Philippe Mason

Daniel Mason is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, with research interests in the subjective experience of mental illness, the use of the humanities in treatment, and the influence of literature, history, and culture on modern medical practice. He received a BA in Biology from Harvard in 1998, and his MD from UCSF in 2004. A fiction writer, he is the author The Piano Tuner, The Winter Soldier, and A Registry of My Passage Upon the Earth (2020). His short stories and essays have appeared in Harper's, Zoetrope, The Atlantic, Lapham's Quarterly and the New York Times Book Review. He is a recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2015, he served as Visiting Professor in Creative Writing, teaching the Stanford Stegner Fiction Workshop.

Currently teaching
