Dr Simon Stertzer is Professor Emeritus in the Cardiovascular Division of the Department of Medicine of the Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Stertzer performed the first coronary angioplasty in the United States in 1978, and has continued to pursue leading edge technologies in interventional cardiology. Dr Stertzer has pioneered balloon angioplasty, coronary stenting, drug eluting stenting, and atherectomy treatments of coronary vascular disease. Dr Stertzer currently is expanding the treatment of heart failure using the intramyocardial injection of stem cells into patients suffering from ischemic cardiomyopathy. He teaches an undergraduate seminar in the Spring Qtr.
