Personal bio
W. Richard (Dick) Scott received his Ph.D. degree in sociology from the University of Chicago. He has spent his entire career at Stanford University, formally retiring in 1999, but he remains active in teaching and research. He was formerly Vice Chair and Chair of the Department of Sociology, and the Director of the Organizations Research Training Program from 1972-89 and of the Stanford Center for Organizations Research from 1988 to 1995. In addition to his appointment in sociology he holds courtesy appointments in the Graduate School of Business, School of Education, and School of Medicine, and he is a Senior Researcher in the Collaboratory for Research on Global Projects in the School of Engineering. He is also a Senior Scholar associated with program on Ecology of Higher Education in the School of Education
