Personal bio
Muriel Maffre extensive career in the performing arts brought her to dance with Hamburg Ballet, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo and San Francisco Ballet where she was Principal for 17 years. Muriel retired from the San Francisco Ballet with a Farewell Gala on May, 6th 2007. Since, she has been involved in dance education, the arts and public humanities. In December 2008, Muriel received the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres from the hands of Jean-François Mourier, Consul General of France in San Francisco. Muriel was a Visiting Fellow at Cornell University in March 2008. She is a Gold Medalist from Paris 1st International Ballet Competition, and the recipient of two Isadora Duncan Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Individual Performance. She is a Graduate from the Paris Opera Ballet School, and holds a First Price with Honors from the Paris National Conservatory of Music. Muriel holds a B.A. in Performing Arts and an MA in Museum Studies.
