Personal bio
Dr. Lakshika Tennakoon is a Clinical Epidemiologist working in the Department of Surgery, Section of Trauma & Critical Care, of Stanford University. Her work focuses on improving trauma systems and clinical outcomes for injured patients. Her broader research interests include epidemiology, injury prevention, biostatistics, bioinformatics, health service research, machine learning, and psychiatry. Before joining the Department of Surgery, she worked within the Department of Psychiatry and Bioinformatics at Stanford University. She was the domain expert in psychiatry for the development of the National Database for Autism Research (NDAR) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She was awarded the Senior Scientist Award by the International Congress on Schizophrenia Research. Dr. Tennakoon has extensive international experience in research, teaching, and clinical care. Before moving to the United States, she was a senior research scientist at King's College, University of London, UK, and the University of Melbourne, Australia. She holds a dual Doctoral Degree in Public Health and an MPhil in Epidemiology. She completed her medical education and practiced in the field of Primary Care. Dr. Tennakoon's formidable presence is evident through her substantial publication record in high-impact journals, a testament to her commitment to advancing the medical and surgical research knowledge base. She serves as a scientific reviewer on the PCORI (Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute) Addressing Violence and Trauma panel and is the Associate Editor for Statistics at the Journal of Surgical Research.
