Personal bio
Dr. Lakshika Tennakoon is a clinical epidemiologist currently working in the Department of Surgery, Section of Trauma & Critical Care, of Stanford University, USA. Her work focuses on improving trauma systems and clinical outcomes for injured patients. Her broader research interests include epidemiology, injury prevention, biostatistics, bioinformatics, health service research, machine learning, and psychiatry. Before joining the Department of Surgery, she worked within the Department of Psychiatry and Bioinformatics at Stanford University. She was the domain expert for psychiatry in developing the National Database for Autism Research (NDAR) for the National Institute of Health (NIH), USA. She was awarded the Senior Scientist Award by the International Congress on Schizophrenia Research. Dr. Tennakoon has extensive international experience in research, teaching, and clinical care. Before moving to the United States, she was a senior research scientist at Kings College at the University of London, UK, and the University of Melbourne, Australia. She holds a dual Doctoral Degree in Public Health and an MPhil in Epidemiology. She completed her medical education in Sri Lanka and practiced in the field of Primary Care. Dr. Tennakoon's formidable presence is evident through her substantial publication record in high-impact journals, a testament to her commitment to advancing medical and surgical research knowledge base.
