Personal bio
Kirupa Pushparaj is the director of intellectual property at Square, Inc, where he leads a team that is responsible for all aspects of Squareâs intellectual property globally. He protects Squareâs innovation and rights by managing its patent, copyright and trademark portfolios and is responsible for all of Squareâs IP litigation, covering patents, domains, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. Additionally, Mr Pushparaj leads Squareâs legal operations team that is responsible for championing innovation, efficiency and the adoption of emerging technologies across the legal team. Before Square, Mr Pushparaj was IP counsel for Lab126 â the digital technology arm of Amazon.com â and was at Perkins Coie LLP before that. Prior to practising law, he was a senior design engineer at Intel Corp, where he worked on semiconductor circuits and process technology. Mr Pushparaj enjoys teaching patent law and has been an adjunct professor for over eight years at various California universities, including Stanford University, the University of the Pacific and the University of California, Davis. He was selected as a Northern California Rising Star in 2011 and 2012 by Super Lawyers, as the Corporate IP Counsel of the Year in 2017 by the San Francisco Business Times and was named Best Under 40 by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. He has also received multiple Wiley W Manuel awards for his continued pro bono services. |
