Personal bio
Jessi is a Ph.D. candidate in Theater & Performance Studies at Stanford University, expecting to complete her degree in spring 2019. Her dissertation, "Acts of Commitment: Prefigurative Politics on the Agitprop Stage" uses archival case studies from the German agitprop movement to explore amateur performance as a vehicle for transforming political commitments into actionable strategies of resistance. During the 2017-2018 academic year, she conducted archival research in Berlin as a DAAD fellow. Jessi completed an M.A. in Theaterwissenschaft at the Freie Universität Berlin in 2012, where she studied as a DAAD scholarship holder. Prior to that, she received a B.A. in Drama from the University of Alberta, with a focus on directing, clown and mask work, and solo performance. Concurrent to her academic pursuits, Jessi has been an active theater artist, with a special focus on integrating performance and pedagogy. See www.jessipiggott.com for details of recent directing and dramaturgy work. Jessi also runs workshops on topics including guerrilla performance, Brecht in practice, and drag, as well as public speaking seminars for Stanford's Hume Center for Speaking and Writing.
