Personal bio
Jay Mitchell received his A.B. in political science from Stanford in 1980 and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1983. He clerked in federal district court in Washington, D.C. and practiced law at Arnold & Porter in Washington and Heller Ehrman in San Francisco, becoming a Heller partner in 1990. Jay moved in-house to Levi Strauss & Co. in 1992, where he served as chief corporate counsel until 2007, with responsibility for stockholder, finance, governance, disclosure and commercial transaction matters. He joined Stanford Law School in late 2007 to found and direct the Organizations and Transactions Clinic. Jay, a native of Lawrence, Kansas, is a fan of running, reading, organic produce, Stanford sports and Kansas Jayhawks basketball.
