Personal bio
George Springer is the Paul Pigott Professor of Engineering (emeritus) and former Chairman (1990-2001) of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University. He is the author or co-author of twelve books and over 200 technical papers. Professor Springer is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and has been named the "US Aerospace Engineer of the Year" for 1995. He has been a consultant to NASA, the Air Force, the Navy, major aerospace and automotive companies, and America's Cup syndicates, and is on the Academic Technical Advisory Panel of Golf Digest. He has been a tank commander, played ice hockey and raced sailboats for a living, and he now plays lousy golf.
