Personal bio
Geoff is the Haas Center for Public Service student service organization (SSO) program director, teaching service learning practicum courses, advising prospective and ongoing SSO leaders on strategies for public service organization development, program design and evaluation, interagency collaboration, membership recruitment and retention, and other principles and practices outlined in the Haas Center's Principles of Ethical and Effective Service. Geoff was a doctoral candidate (ABD) from Columbia University Teachers College, where he researched and taught inter/disciplinary literacies. Prior to his Haas Center work, Geoff consulted for an international nonprofit dedicated to improving educator effectiveness through onboarding, mentoring, and ongoing coaching support. His clients included universities (including Stanford), state and local education agencies, international ministries of education, and nonprofits. He has taught at Stanford University, Columbia University, University of Nevada (Reno) where he earned an MA in environmental literature and conservation sciences, and other higher ed and secondary institutions. Geoff also serves as a Stanford co-Resident Fellow in a first-year residential community. When not learning from Stanford students and colleagues, he provides docent-led tours of Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve ('Ootchamin 'Ooyakma), and enjoys outdoor and international adventures with Patti Hanlon-Baker and their two adult children.
