Personal bio
Fahmida leverages 20 years of progressive leadership and implementation experience in sustainability and climate action in higher education, high tech and health care. As the Executive Director of Sustainability at Stanford Health Care (SHC), she now drives the execution of large, multi-year, and enterprise-wide sustainability initiatives impacting energy use, building design, resource conservation, waste elimination, transportation demand, staff engagement, and clinical integration. Prior to Stanford Health Care, as Senior Director and Head of ESG for Intuitive Surgical. She set up the framework for sustainability and ESG, and oversaw sustainability strategy, decarbonization planning, reporting, regulatory compliance, and the environmental management system. Fahmida has served as a VP of Sustainability at ITRenew, a circularity company for global data centers, founding their sustainability and decarbonization relationships in the value chain to the point of acquisition by Iron Mountain. Before returning to tech, Fahmida spent 15 years in higher education. She founded and directed Stanford University's Office of Sustainability programs (2008-2021) for infrastructure planning, resource efficiency, assessments, reporting, business digitization, individual engagement, and research integration to foster "university as a living lab" and reduce the university's scope 1 and 2 emissions by 100%. Before Stanford, she was the first sustainability specialist at UC Berkeley, architecting UCs first carbon action plan. A dedicated sustainability, climate action and ESG pioneer, Fahmida earned a B.A. in Economics from Smith College, and Master's in Environmental Science, Management and Policy from UC Santa Barbara. She is a recipient of the 2024 Top 100 CSO in North America, recipient of 2022 Women in Sustainability Leadership Award (WSLA), seasoned presenter, and a visiting lecturer at Stanford University since 2010.
