Personal bio
David Straub is a former senior U.S. career diplomat whose 30-year career focused on Northeast Asian affairs. He served eight years each with the U.S. embassies in South Korea and Japan, and speaks both languages. His last government postings were as director of Korean affairs and director of Japanese affairs at U.S. State Department headquarters in Washington. He has been associate director of the Korean Studies Program at Stanford since 2008, and earlier taught at Johns Hopkins and Seoul National University. David took up motorcycling after moving to California.
