Personal bio
Bruce Macintosh received his Bachelor's degree in Physics from University of Toronto in 1988, and his PhD in Astronomy from UCLA in 1994. He was a researcher at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from 1994 to 2014 before starting at Stanford as a professor in the Physics department and the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology. His primary research interest is the study of extrasolar planets and the development of the instruments needed to image and characterize them. He is the principal investigator for the Gemini Planet Imager, a planet-hunting facility on the Gemini South telescope in Chile.
