Ian Beacock is an intellectual and cultural historian of modern Europe. A PhD candidate in the History Department, he is completing a dissertation about the problem of liberal emotions in Germany's ill-starred Weimar Republic (1918-33). His broader interests include political culture, the history of emotions, liberalism, citizenship, and the history of sexuality. He also writes more broadly about liberal arts education, the humanities, and Silicon Valley from his perch in San Francisco.
