Raymond R. Balise (650) 724-2602
Personal bio
Raymond Balise began teaching computer programming while an undergraduate studying theoretical Linguistics and Psychology at the University of California, Irvine in 1987. After receiving his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994, he came to Stanford University and has taught data management and statistical programming within the department of Health Research and Policy ever since. While the majority of his publications involve gene-environment interactions and cancer genetics, he has published works on topics ranging from phonetics to obstetrics and dyspepsia to dyslexia. In addition to focusing on his favorite academic topic, data visualization, he enjoys teaching statistics, computer programming with R and SAS, and SCUBA diving (ideally not at the same time).
