BIOS 272: Zebrafish as a Vertebrate Model Organism

By discussing papers from the scientific literature, this class will familiarize students with the advantages of the zebrafish model system for the analysis of vertebrate biology. Topics will include the genetic, cellular, and molecular analysis of embryonic development and nervous system function in zebrafish. Students will learn to critically evaluate papers from the literature and communicate their analysis to their peers. The class will be taught in a small-group discussion format; each student will lead one discussion and actively participate in all discussions.
