Passages from the epic poetry of Lucretius, Virgil, and Ovid which deal with the origins of the universe and the development of Roman civilization. Focus is on reading the original text and questions of interpretation using secondary literature. Style and vocabulary of the Roman epic and ancient ideas about cosmology. May be repeated for credit.
