CSB 261: Quantitative Principles in Cell Differentiation

Explores the common principles controlling cell differentiation from stem cells to terminally differentiated cells. Focus is on becoming familiar with the computational and single-cell experimental approaches that are needed to identify, probe, and dissect the dynamic decision to differentiate or de-differentiate in different cell systems including stem cells, adipocytes, neurons, pancreatic beta cells, cardiomyocytes, and hematopoietic cells. Topics include exploring how feedback mechanisms can be exploited to enable and precisely control tissue regeneration.

CSB 270: Research Seminar

Guest speakers and discussion on current research in pharmacology.
Terms: Aut, Win, Spr | Units: 1 | Repeatable for credit
Instructors: Chen, J. (PI)

CSB 271: Principles of Cell Cycle Control (BIO 171, BIO 271)

Genetic analysis of the key regulatory circuits governing the control of cell division. Illustration of key principles that can be generalized to other synthetic and natural biological circuits. Focus on tractable model organisms; growth control; irreversible biochemical switches; chromosome duplication; mitosis; DNA damage checkpoints; MAPK pathway-cell cycle interface; oncogenesis. Analysis of classic and current primary literature. Satisfies Central Menu Area 2.
Last offered: Autumn 2011

CSB 272: Research Ethics

Preference to Chemical and Systems Biology students and postdoctoral fellows. Focus is on responsible conduct of research with a combination of didactic lectures and in-class activities. Topics include ethical issues in research, interpersonal responsibility, professional responsibility, and human and animal participation in research.
| Repeatable 2 times (up to 2 units total)
