ME 114: Consumer Analytical Product Design (CAPD)
Holistic design experience for consumer product. Integration of models of engineering function, environmental impact, manufacturing costs, and market conditions. Introduction to life-cycle-analysis to capture environmental impact. Introduction to modeling micro economics, market models, and consumer surveying as applied in product design. Introduction to consumer product cost modeling. Draw from past coursework to build engineering function model. Student teams build and link these models in an optimization framework to maximize profitability and minimize environmental impact. Build prototypes for engineering function and form expression. ME 115C: Design and Business Factors
Design and Business Factors: Introduces business concepts critical to determining the success of new products and services. Students will learn to estimate the cost of R&D for new product development. Using financial analysis, ROI, and tollgates to reduce development risk will be explored using case studies and simulations. Students will develop a bill of materials and a profit and loss statement for a sample product concept, prototype a design consultancy, and create a business proposal for a proposed new product company.

ME 11SC: The Art and Science of Measuring Fluid Flows
The roles of fluid flows in natural systems such as swimming protozoa and planet-forming nebulae, and technologies such as biomolecular assay devices and jet engines.
