Analysis of artwork in the context of Chinese history, culture, society and politics, developing visual literacy and critical thinking in the study of key artists and artistic trends. Key questions: How is contemporary Chinese art related to history and culture of China? How are traditional elements turned into contemporary forms? How is contemporary Chinese art influenced by international trends such as conceptualism and postmodernism? How do artists address social and political issues and struggle with censorship?
