Comprehensive study of the intellectual foundations of the western tradition in dialogue with eastern, indigenous, and postcolonial perspectives. Modernity as a period in intellectual history and a problem in the human sciences. Authors include Marx, Nietzsche, Freud, Kafka, Woolf, Eliot, and Sartre.
