Practical instruction. The rhythms and styles of flamenco and the expression of feelings proper to this art form which synthesizes song, music, and dance. Major ideas, theories, and findings of social psychology and their relevance to social problems, ethnicity, and culture. Special attention to historical issues, classic studies, seminal theories, and the methodological traditions of experimental social psychology. Contemporary research also discussed. Focus on the three major intellectual contributions of social psychology¿emphasis on situational rather than dispositional causes of behavior; recognition of the role of subjective construal in human affairs; appreciation of the complexity in social systems¿and their importance in understanding human behavior, groups, culture, and inequality.

Introduction to statistical ideas and thinking through examples. Heuristics and biases that can lead to inaccurate conclusions. Examples (drawn from Kahneman¿s Thinking Fast and Slow): the law of small numbers, availability biases, representativeness, base rates and Bayes¿ rule, regression to the mean. Also, a not-too-technical treatment of some important statistical ideas in medicine, public health and social statistics such as: trials of life (randomization), Simpson¿s paradox and hidden confounders. In-depth exploration of two towering figures of modern art, Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (1746 1828) and Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), considering their work in relation to Spanish politics and history from the rise of Los Ilustrados (associates of the Spanish Enlightenment) and the Napoleonic Wars to the Spanish Civil War and the dictatorship of Francisco Franco. Close and repeated examination of major works by both artists in the collections of the Museo Nacional del Prado, Museo Reina Sofia, and Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza.
