Personal bio
Peter J. Haas received a PhD in Operations Research in 1985 from Stanford University, and has been a Research Staff Member at the IBM Almaden Research Center since 1987. He is also a Consulting Professor in the Department of Management Science and Engineering at Stanford University, teaching and pursuing research in stochastic modeling and simulation. He is an ACM Fellow, an IBM Master Inventor, and a former President of the INFORMS Simulation Society (I-SIM). He is an Associate Editor for Operations Research and an Area Editor for ACM Transactions on Modeling and Computer Simulation. He has received a number of awards including an I-SIM Outstanding Simulation Publication Award and an ACM SIGMOD 10-Year Best Paper Award, as well as IBM Oustanding Technical Achievement and Outstanding Innovation Awards. At IBM, his work on the application of statistical and Monte Carlo techniques to information-management systems has been incorporated into several IBM products and has also resulted in numerous patents.
