Personal bio
My goal in teaching is to have you reflect on the digital traces you leave with every decision you make, every step you take, and every smile you fake :) I study the impact of social-mobile technologies on individuals, communities, companies and society. I was the chief scientist at Amazon. I now run the Social Data Lab, a group of current and former students from Stanford and UC Berkeley (where I teach the course "Social Data Revolution" in the fall, see http://weigend.com/teaching). I work with great startups here and with large corporations worldwide, including Alibaba, GE, Lufthansa, and MasterCard. I also share my insights on the untapped power of data at international conferences. Topics include "Turning Big Data into Decisions" and "Data is the New Oil". After studying in Germany and Cambridge, I received my Ph.D. in Physics from Stanford. I now live in San Francisco, Shanghai, and on http://weigend.com. Happy to get any questions you might have.
